What is home care and how does it differ from home healthcare?

People often use these terms interchangeably when it comes to care at home. However, there is a distinction. Home care refers to services that are non-medical provided by caregivers, such as personal care or homemaking services. Home healthcare refers to services that are skilled in nature and include nursing care along with therapies like physical, occupational and speech therapy.

What services does Crystal Home Care provide?

Crystal Home Care provides an array of personal care services like grooming, hygiene, bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, transferring, mobility assistance and incontinence care. Along with these services, our caregivers also provide companionship and can assist with household tasks like housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, medication reminders, grocery shopping, and community transportation services.

How are caregivers screened and selected?

Every employee and caregiver we hire at Crystal Home Care goes through an intensive interview process, allowing us to determine if they are suited for senior care and also someone who buys into our philosophy and vision of providing the best care possible. Along with this, each employee must provide professional references and undergo a local and national criminal background check.

Do you provide training to your caregivers?

Yes, all of our caregivers must fulfill basic training as required by the state of Illinois governing body (IDPH) prior to hire and annually complete these competencies to remain a Crystal caregiver. Along with this, we also provide additional training to our caregivers in the field of dementia care and Alzheimer’s specific care.

Are Crystal Caregivers insured?

All Crystal employees and caregivers are fully bonded and insured above industry standards, and covered under Illinois Workers Compensation insurance for you and your loved one’s safety and peace of mind.

How much does in-home care cost?

Homecare is an out of pocket cost and rates vary, dependent on the type of service that is provided. We are here to help you navigate this important decision and encourage you to contact our office and speak to a care coordinator regarding services and costs.

What service options does Crystal Home Care offer?

Crystal Home Care services are available for as little as 4 hours a day and for live-in services, up to 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Do you provide services to those in nursing homes or assisted living communities?

Crystal Home Care can provide companionship and personal care to residents in independent living homes, assisted living communities, hospitals and nursing homes who may seek one-on-one care, additional help, or personalized care.

Do you have a service contract I have to sign?

Yes, per state mandated guidelines, we are required to have a service agreement between us and our clients that ensures the care was delivered in the both the scope and quality promised. How do you supervise caregivers?

Our care coordinators are in constant communication with caregivers and complete onsite supervisory visits on a regular basis to ensure care is being delivered as promised, and that clients are completely satisfied.

Why is Home Care Assistance good for seniors?


Aging is an ongoing process, which comes with its own set of challenges for a client and their loved ones. We feel that while encountering these challenges, a client is most likely to thrive in a familiar environment such as their home versus a senior living community. Previously known as Shay Nursing services, Crystal Home Care was founded in Oak Forest, Illinois in 1981.

Are homecare services covered by Long Term insurance or Medicare?


Yes, typically these services are often covered by certain Long-term insurance plans. If you or your loved ones have Long term insurance, please contact our office and we can go over the process of initiating and qualifying for care. Medicare typically does not cover private duty caregiving services; however, there are some provisions for homecare that will be covered by Medicare advantage plans in the near future.

How quickly can Crystal staff a caregiver?


We pride ourselves on providing care in a timely manner and are able to assign you a dedicated caregiver within 24 hours.

Are your caregivers Multi-Lingual?


We have many caregivers that speak multiple languages, often times with English being their second language. If you or your loved one has a language preference, please let us know and we will do our best to assign you an appropriate caregiver.

How is billing and payment handled?


We provide our clients with an itemized bill containing services provided. Payment can be made by cash, check, ACH transfer and most credit cards.
